Independents war War has tore this family apart, they do not know which side to be on, and they are caught right in the middle of it. In the book , My brother Sam is Dead, The Meekers (in the story) are an average household family living in the year of 1775. The Meekers have two boys Sam and Tim, and their parents own a tavern in the town of Redding. The Independents war comes along and brother Sam wants to join the war. Sam does so and becomes a patriot, father does not like the idea of that. Sam is just a little kid and he does no know the brutalities of war. I also think “War is not worth dying for” said Mr Meeker (Collier and Collier 58)
War tears families apart. War is so brutal but Sam can not see it. ”Principal, Sam? Thousands of men sacrificed their life to the war. “Oh God, Sam, what did you have to fight for?”(collier and collier 58) The war has brought nothing except death low produce or materials. They are killing their own men, and the people on their side. Nothing ever good comes out of war besides land in which they are not fighting for. Patrick Henry once said “give me liberty or give me death” but was he entirely fighting for? The only thing we forced you to do was pay taxes and go to church. We gave you land, you have free religion. What else could you possibly need?
“War is not worth dying for” Along with war comes chaos, death, law breaking, and a sore loser. It may seem like one side has one but they have not. Each of them have lost men, money, and product.
