What is Net Neutrality? Although becoming a big topic in late 2017, the idea of Net Neutrality has been around since the 1990s. In shorts it is a set of rules that regulations that set certain parameters for Internet Service Providers, or ISPs, to operate in. This is to allow users access to all content on the internet and to keep ISPs from restricting any sources. This is a sensitive topic who’s resolution will affect millions.
One of the biggest concerns about losing Net Neutrality is the fear that in general internet services might become pay to play. Internet packages that consumers already pay for will become submediocore and new premium packages will be available to those who are willing to pay the extra dollar. This can lead to censorship and discrimination. Since Internet service providers would have more control over what you are allowed to access they can censor whatever they want. This can include protest media, news articles, campaigns and more.
Low income families would be forced to take action immediately getting rid of their internet services. If a child lived in a not so affluent society and attended a school with a low budget, they might not have any internet access at all, which is terrible because a child can do a lot of self learning via the internet and maybe find a future pasion.
People that may not be able to go to a doctor because they can’t afford the time off work will probably diseases that go undiagnosed which will only hurt them in the future, whereas if they had net neutrality they could have a better understanding of their situation of they were able to email their Doctor in the timely fashion, without worrying about slower internet speeds impeding
