New Jersey was one of the America's original 13 colonies. The original 13 colonies were divided into three regions including the New England Colonies, the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies. New Jersey was one of the Middle Colonies which also included New York, Pennsylvania , and Delaware. New Jersey was founded by Sir George Carteret and Lord Berkeley in 1664. New Jersey Colony region had been ruled by Swedish and Dutch.
The social classes were the gentry, middle class, and indentured servants. The gentry were the "upper crust" of colonial society. They were large landowners, very wealthy merchants, and financiers. They owned huge tracts of land and usually many slaves. The gentry was rich planters, doctor, and lawyer. The middle class was farmers, and craftspeople . Some meats they had were fish & roast meat, they also had for their stews clam chowder or succotash. Desserts they had were puddings, molasses donuts, or flummery. The colonists built their own houses which were mostly made out of wood. All houses had a fireplace for warmth and cooking.
Natural resources in the New Jersey included agriculture land , forests( timber),iron ore, coal, and furs. Major exports from the New Jersey Colony included livestock, rice, wheat, indigo, rice, grain and other agricultural products.Iron ore was important to the New Jersey Colony. They used it to manufacture items to export to England such as tools, kettles, nails, plows, and nails. They also exported large chunks of iron to be manufactured into iron products elsewhere.
In 1664 england took control to a land that now is New Jersey. John Berkeley and George Carteret were named proprietors of the colony. The proprietors had the power to appoint the governor of the colony. George appointed his cousin Philip as the first governor in 1665. That’s how wa the government in New jersey
