The history of our nation began in New Jersey. New Jersey was one of the original 13 colonies. It is located along the Atlantic coast. New Jersey was founded in 1664 and in 1778 became the third state to sign the Constitution. Religious freedom was established in New Jersey. People came from all over to live there. Land was more affordable than in England. Everyone wanted a better life.
New Jersey is where a lot of events happened during the Revolutionary War. George Washington, our first president, spent a lot of time in New Jersey during the Revolutionary War. There were many battles happening during this time. Some examples are the Battle of Fort Lee, and the Battle of mammoth. From 1664 through 1702 New Jersey was divided into two colonies.
