Welcome to the Empire State. Smell the engine fumes from the buses, the trains, and the gridlock traffic on the Interstate Expressway. A single tunnel separates the two family colonial style homes from the city’s high rise apartment buildings. In addition, the buildings tower over one another in a seemingly never ending skyline. It’s the city that never sleeps, and rightfully so, who could sleep through what can only be described as commotion. Nevertheless, this is the big apple, New York City. Best known for its crowded streets, emulous nature, and multicultural environment.

A sea of yellow cabs whizz by, weaving in and out of traffic as travelers move from triple digit, to double and single digit streets. This is Manhattan, where shoppers, tourists, street venders, pets, pigeons and residents all share the sidewalks as they hustle about. Hot dogs, shish Kabobs, and roasted peanuts fill the air. Furthermore, direct sunlight is occluded by the enormous buildings that takes on a maze like form throughout the city. The screams from two men engaged in conversation becomes more apparent as you move closer to them. This is no altercation, this is the normal volume for a conversation between native New Yorkers.

Uptown this way, a sign above a stairwell with an arrow pointing down to another entrance-way that leads deeper into the underground tunnel. Clink Clack! The sounds of the enormous train emerging from the tunnel roars at a deafening pitch. Instantaneously, the train appears and comes to a screeching halt. Subsequently, the doors open and the passengers pour in and out in no particular order. The emulous nature of the city can be daunting. Some would describe it as organized chaos.
