This article from IMediaEthics.com talks about a fake quote published by the New York Times. We talked about that in class last week, and as explained in the article, even though it was a mistake, people are still judging and reprimanding the journalist. The journalist from the New York Times did not do it on purpose and he apologized, fixed the mistake, but he already has lost his credibility because of that. He couldn’t know that it was a fake quote but if he had verified his sources he would have known. He actually did not do his job well, respecting an ethical code. A journalist should always verify his sources, few times if possible to make sure that he gives accurate information to his readers.
