Information retrieval is “concerned with all the activities related to the organization of, processing of, and access to, information in all forms and formats” (Chowdhury, 2010, p. 93). The goal of Project One: Database Design was to experience all these activities through the designing, implementation, and testing of a database. Each class member was assigned a group and given this project as segmented tasks that were to be completed according to schedule.
The Group Group 30 consisted of four people, Meghann Thomas and Alysia Verhagen who live in California, and Theresa Quiocho and myself who live in Hawaii. Included in the goals for this project, as stated on the instruction sheet, was for the student to experience managing a group project and working collaboratively online. I chose to take on the job as leader, mainly out of concern for completing the assignment on time, as there was no strong personality in our group that wanted the responsibility. Through email, I would schedule meeting times, check on the progress of fellow students, remind people of deadlines, and tried to keep an open door of communication. I relied heavily on another group

Due to the different time zones, job schedules, and our personal times allotted for school, my group was limited to weekends as being the time we could meet together online. These scheduling issues also affected when individual parts of the project were delivered to the group and caused some issues. My time schedule was such that I tried to have assignments finished by the end of week and could not be available in the evenings, while others in my group planned the weekends as the time they would do the bulk of their assignments. This may be part of the reason for our errors in the Part A
