When the energy content in five different types of nuts was tested by lightning each nut with a match and then placing underwater to find out how many Calories it contained, which nut was found to have the highest energy content?

The purpose of this lab is to find out which type of nut has the highest energy content.

The energy content of five different types of nuts was investigated and tested to find out which one had the highest energy content. Before the lab was begun, background research was done. First research was done on energy content to truly understand what exactly that meant and how it worked. A kilocalorie is the amount of energy that is required to be able to raise 1000 mL of water by 1℃. A kilocalorie is the

The experiment that was conducted contained a burning nut being placed under water to heat up the water until it burned out or the water reached its maximum for temperature. Since a kilocalorie is the amount of energy that is required to be able to raise 1000 mL of water by 1℃, it was possible to find that by conducting the experiment. But that did not provide the answer outright, there was a little math that was needed. The change in mass of the peanut had to be calculated, as did the change in temperature of the water. After that the energy gained by water needed to be calculated, which meant multiplying the mass of water by the change in temperature of the water by 1. Then to find the final answer it was necessary to divide the energy gained by water by the change in the mass of food, providing the final …show more content…
Logger pro was then opened.
The large test tube was positioned on the ring stand so that is would be about 1.5 inches above the food when it was place under the test tube.
50 mL of water were added to a 100 mL graduated cylinder
The 50 mL of water were then poured into the large test tube.
The temperature probe was then placed in the water, the temperature that showed up on the computer was recorded on a data table. The temperature probe was left in the test tube for the rest of the experiment.
An almond was placed on the food stand/holder.
The almond and the food stand/holder was then weighed on the scale and recorded on the data table.
The almond was lit on fire by a match, when it caught fire it was placed under the test tube containing water. The match was placed on the foil.
As soon as the almond was placed under the test tube, the start button on Logger Pro was pressed.
Once the almond burned out all the way, the stop button on Logger Pro was pressed.
The length of time the almond burned was recorded. The almond was weighed on the scale again and the new weight was also recorded.
The almond was then taken off the food stand/holder and was placed on the aluminum
