Odysseus: A Hero In Homer's The Odyssey

Odysseus is considered to be a hero in The Odyssey. He is a smart and strategic leader who is brave. Many times he has saved his men from dangerous creatures, and other times from his men's own stupidity. He has taken chances for his men to live, and often despite being a little cocky he makes his way out of harm by outsmarting his enemies.

One example of his smart and strategic side would have to be the Trojan horse. His objective was to overtake troy. Odysseus put all his men into a horse and put them outside Troys gate. They were let in that night when they burnt and pillaged the city. I'm pretty sure no one could have made a wise plan like that but Odysseus. Another act of strategies he conducted was with the Cyclopes Polyphemus. When he got the giant drunk and then blinded him. When the giant asked who blinded him he said his name was Nohbdy. When the other giants asked why he was in pain and who did it, the giant replied nohbdy! Odysseus also knew that his only way out of the giants cave was by the rock. So he tied his men under the cattle knowing the giant couldn’t see them and made his escape. His strategic ideas have helped the men escape and overcome his tasks.

When his men ate the flowers they had forgotten that they were heading home. Odysseus had to grab his men and tie them down so they could leave even though odysseus warned them about the flowers. He also saved his men from the siliconies when they raided the beach in need of food and wine. While his men got drunk odysseus warned them of the army over the hill. He managed to save most of them once again because of the men's own
