Odysseus was a man of many things, he can considered heroic, and idiotic, depending on your personal views. Of course, the obvious answer that you’re looking for is of course, even though I my think otherwise. But I can see why people would consider Odysseus a heroic man.
But what does heroic even mean. To some people one may thing heroic is saving someone else’s life. Someone else may think it could be someone who isn’t afraid to take a risk for a team. But what does the word heroic actually mean? It means to be brave, and have the characteristics of a hero/heroine.
Odysseus can be considered heroic for killing the cyclops in book nine, lines 300-305 while comparing it to how they make soft iron hard. Or in book eleven when Odysseus and his cret set off for the land of the dead, unknowing of what may happen. He can even be considered heroic in book 12 when he forced himself not to listen to the sirens knowing that if he did they would all die, taking the all or nothing risk of a lifetime.
There were times, in fact, that Odysseus was heroic. However there were other times in which he inevitably stupid.

Or in book nine when Circe casts a spell on him forcing Odysseus to sleep with her, even if he didn’t want to. Now this is personal opinion, but Odysseus is said to have penelope more than anyone could ever love someone, however, I believe that if you loved someone that much, that emotion would be able to overpower the spell, and he wouldn’t be forced to sleep with Circe.
