Odysseus: The Hero In Homer's The Odyssey

Hereos have been around since the very begining of civilization. Hereos are in everything, and in our world. Hereos are those who put other's needs before their own. In all cultures and generations of the world, the hero cycle has been the same, meaning, heroes may not be the same, or look the same, but they all have the same cycle to become a hero. When the word "hero" is said, what is the first thing, or person, that comes to mind? it might be someone(or something) wearing a mask and a cape. it might also be someone who has saved someone from a terrible fate, for example, going into the hunger games. Over the years the word "hero" has not changed, because heroes are still those who put other's before themselves. In the epic The Odessey by Homer, the main character, Odysseus is the hero of the story. Odysseus has many positive sttributes and while trying to escape from the Cyclops', you can see how smart he is, " I drew all my wits, and ran through tactics, reasoning as a man will for dear life..."(Page 872). This shows how smart Odysseus is, and how fast and quick-minded this hero is. All heroes have weaknesses, or flaws, and Odysseus' is how he always has to have the last word, or show the losers that he won, as seen after he escaped …show more content…
Odysseus is a perfect hero and has many attributes of the perfect heroes that are seen in the society now. He is strong, mentally and phyiscally, and uses that for good. He is also big headed and over confident, which do not help him, but make him similar to perfect heroes now. Katniss Everdeen is a misfit hero that is very similar to misfit heroes back in Odysses' time. She is filled with love and compation that help her have friends and loved ones.
