Offering cultural-competent mental health and social services is important due to the diversity that is found within communities around the United States. In addition, the United States is continually growing through the increasing numbers of immigrants from an array of countries which make up social diverse communities. Furthermore, with a diverse community one will find that cultures are not seemingly the same and will find that what is normal to one culture is by far the opposite to another. For example, a counseling center with hospital-like rooms might deter the Asian community from seeking assistance since, in the Asian culture hospitals are a place where people go to die (Diller, p. 2).
