In this research paper I will be talking about evolution, Charles Darwin, Alligators, and adaption. Alligators are a modern species that were developed from its ancestors millions of years ago. I will be talking about the modern species, it’s ancestors, and it’s adaptions. Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organism are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of Earth. Evolution usually takes millions of years in order for a species to evolve into another species Charles Darwin was born February 12, 1809 and died April 19, 1882. Charles was an English naturalist who was famous for developing the theory of evolution. Most of his theory is in the book: Origin of Species, published in 1859. Charles was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire England. He was in a wealthy family of six children. He was raised by a doctor and a financier. In 1825 he was an apprentice doctor at the University of Edinburg Medical School. He did not like doing this so his second year he joined a student natural history group that talked about radical materialism. In 1837 Charles was elected to the Council of the Geological Society. In 1838 Charles married his cousin Emma Wedgewood. Charles would continue to develop his large theory, but in the meantime he was writing about geology. Finally in 1859, he published Origin of Species where most of his theory of evolution would be. Survival of the fittest is a phrase Herbert Spencer came up with after reading Charles Darwin’s Origin of Species. This phrase is a different way of describing the mechanism of natural selection. “Survival of the Fittest” means that the fittest members of a species, which refers to their ability to survive, will be passed on and become more common in the species. Charles Darwin defined natural selection as the members of a species who had the best survival skills, such as: avoiding enemies, stalking prey, and finding food. The word fittest means having the highest number of fertile offspring. Biological Adaption is the evolutionary process where a population becomes used to its habitat. When a population becomes comfortable in its habitat, it figures out ways do things in order to survive. If different species never adapted to their habitat or environment, then that species population would most likely die out and become extinct. For example, the polar bear adapted to colder environments by developing different fur to trap air bubbles to improve buoyancy while swimming, and having wider feet to swim better. That is basically what biological adaption is. Extinction is when an animal does not exist…
