Being in a whole other country can be frightening. It seems that a person has to adjust to the culture of that particular country, from food, people, living, jobs and etc. Every parent wants their child to do better than they did when they were growing up. Although some parents do not necessarily know how to go about teaching their child, without forcing it on them. Sometimes the way a parent expresses themselves to their child/children does not always get across to them the first time. They then get a little bit harder on the child because they see the potential in them, and as hard as it may seem for the child, like the sayings goes “Parents knows best.” In today’s generation some teenagers are trying to be better, so they won’t have to see their parents struggle. …show more content…
Amy Tan uses her own experiences as being a Chinese American. Jing-Mei wants nothing but to be herself. She feels as if her mother is not happy with her as a person. “Why don’t you like me the way I am? I’m not a genius!
