With a tanner skin tone, black hair, and noticeable birthmarks over my body, it’s hard not to notice the stark contrast between me and the vast majority of Americans. I lived in places where most people looked the same, with lighter skin tones and hair colors. Over the years, many people have told me that I was the odd one out. In a group or by myself, they would comment on how I looked and acted different from the rest of my peers.
