The current issue I chose to speak on is the United States opposal to letting Syrian refugees in. According to CNN, more than 250,000 people have died since the violence broke out in Syria in 2011, and at least 11 million people in the country of 22 million have fled their homes. Syria has the world’s largest refugee population and many are trying to resettle in America. However many republicans disagree with letting the Syrians resettle and I agree. I agree because I feel as though America should not accept Syrian refugees because they could be apart of ISIS, America is already densely populated adding the refugees would increase homelessness and where would the aid come from to support them, and we are not obligated to help Syria in any way. …show more content…
Many of the members in ISIS are religious extremists and the militant group is responsible for the terror attacks in Paris in which killed more than 120 civilians just a few weeks ago. The government says that their screening process will weed out the potential members of ISIS from coming into America. The process includes an approval of the refugee’s written application with requirements being met, a background check, and a face-to-face interview with the applicant. However there is no way of doing a background check on someone from Syria and the applicant can be a great actor/actress but really be apart of ISIS. Syria plays a huge part in the uprising of ISIS because many of their group members are from there. Therefore how could America let these refugees in when they could be plotting terror attacks on the United States innocent
