Today is my first day of practicum also today is the first time I am experiencing what a 12hour shift feels like, waking up today was hard but I knew what my priorities were. We had to be there at 6:15am, during orientation I never really understood why it was stressed we go there at 6:15am but on getting there today it made perfect sense to me, as a nurse it is my duty to get to work in enough time to be able to get report for my patients, so I know what happened during the hours I wasn't there. On getting to the floor everything was fast paced, I was very excited because I was experiencing a different side to clinical, before for medsurg and concept I had to do a preconference to tell us a about my patient, which made me a bit prepared for class, getting reports from the night nurse made me feel like areal nurse, the nurse provided information that could have easily been missed looking at the chart or notes, I got to know my patient how they were like feeling before I met them which gave me a general idea on how to approach them. …show more content…

reason I found advance planning and preparation helpful was because it gave me tips on how to prepare for the practicum site. For instance, in the book it states that it is a good idea to visit the practicum site in advance before you start working there (Chiaferi & Griffin, 1997). Moreover, the book goes on to inform students that if you can meet some of the important people at your practicum in advance, such as, your supervisor it will only make your first day easier and help with the process.
