Urban society has become quite daunting as our population has grown. The quiet, small town is almost completely a thing of the past as America has become widely suburban. Cities can sometimes cause a sensory overload with the loud noises, bright lights, and fast-paced life, which is only intensified for people with autism. In recent years, several programs have been put in place to help people with autism become more productive in society, for example, Target has a program that hires mentally disabled and provides them with benefits. However, very little is done to accommodate them with life in the public. This Praxis Lab will hopefully give a better answer on how we can make our world more adaptable for those who have a greater difficulty being in society independently. One of the biggest stressors for people with mental disabilities is loud noise, whether it is sharp beeping or the constant drone of a busy place. In many cases, people with autism have proven to be successful and productive for society when they get jobs through special work programs specialized for them, yet they are unable to do many other tasks independently. The more functional people we can have in our communities, the more our community will strive. This would also allow people with autism to have a wider range of activities they can do. Everyone should have a chance to live a “normal” life, but this is often not possible and the disabled have lived in a relative silence for years as little was known about their condition. However, now that more is known about autism, more should be done to help them adapt to
