Fast Food and the Negative Effects
In the last years fast food has been in every corner of society. Eric Schlosser said that fast food is really convenience because it’s open at any hour. Fast food, it’s another word for an unhealthy meal. It’s convenient, quick and cheap and you don’t need to do any preparation at all. They serve fast food in restaurants, stadiums, drive-through, zoos, airports, elementary schools, high schools, universities, cruise ships, airplanes, trains, Wal-Marts, K-Marts, hospital cafeterias, gas stations, etc. Glenn Freiboth reports that it’s the reason why many adults and children settle for this option of eating, but it’s also the reason why many of us are so unhealthy. Fast food has negative effects for the human health and people need to put more attention on this problem.
Eating repeated at fast food restaurants like Mc Donald’s is one of the causes. British researchers have determined that repeated eating at McDonald's, KFC or Burger King, people gain more weight and become obese. Freiboth said that, this is because fast food not only contains more calories than traditional food, but also is more likely to undetermined normal appetite control system. A lot of people know about all the bad stuff fast food contains for the human body and they still eat it. There is a big concentration of chemicals ingredients that scientists said that if you eat constantly fast food your life could be shorter. There is a big problem here in America and in the world with fast food because is so easy to fall into the circle of fast, cheap, and good taste food specially for people between 18 and 50 year old. There are fast food restaurants everywhere and because they are in constantly hurry and short in time they just prefer to go the easy way and don’t care. They think it is going to be just once a month, but they do it a lot more than once a month.
There is fast food everywhere; this makes it so attractive for the people. Schlosser said that to eat fast food you just need a few steps too get satisfied, open the door, make line, watch the menu, give your order, spend a few bucks and in few minutes have all your food in your hands. Fast food was made to taste good, it’s not expensive and its convenient, that’s why society keeps eating fast food. The real meals value is never shown and the two for one deals and free refills makes you feel that it is really cheap. You also spend less money than in normal restaurants because in fast food restaurants you don’t need to pay tip.
Lack of physical activity is another of the main causes. The people don’t care about the negative effects anymore. The dark side of fast food is bad and it’s hidden from the public. In a study that scientist made in Sweden with 18 healthy men and women eating fast food from Burger King, McDonald’s, and KFC twice a day for one month with out having any type of exercise. After the for weeks of under a diet of fast food, the blood tests showed evidence that the subjects eating fast food had liver damage. They also had gained an average of 16 pounds. The subjects were eating "an outrageously high amount" of calories, said Keith-Thomas Ayoob, associate professor of pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Ayoob said the calorie intake was almost double the average daily caloric intake of most Americans, which is about 2,700 calories.
