This Civil War has caused terrible damage to our great nation! We must punish the South for causing such an atrocious event; it is simply horrific to try to divide our wonderful country. A strong, united nation is essential for our wellbeing, and to achieve this we must make an example out of the South. This way, any future secessionists will be warned well in advance what will happen to them if they ever try to break up the United States. Ex-Confederate political and military leaders should be charged with treason and held without bail! These terrible people led the fight to break our great country up. It is obvious that we must treat them as criminals and show no mercy. These same people were brutal slave owners who broke up the families of the poor slaves. Not only do they hate America, they also hate families. If we don’t quickly sort out these rebels like I did with Georgia when I burned all of their Confederacy buildings, they could re-band! While they are not as good as us whites, they still deserve an education and to remain together as families. I propose separate education so freed persons can learn to read and write, and thus can become useful members of society. I have conferred with several freed persons, and they say that land ownership would be highly beneficial. Therefore, I have a magnificent plan I think we should call the Forty Acres Plan. Each family of freed persons should receive exactly forty acres of land along the coast and a mule from the Union army to help with their new lives. This can further the economy of our great nation by allowing us to have a large workforce cultivating and harvesting crops. The South's farm work will not be diminished and the freed persons will have a place to live and work. They will also be able to remain with their families.
