Prospect Park

From 1865 to 1873, after finishing work on Central Park, Olmsted and Vaux headed the design of Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York. Many consider this 585-acre park to be their most successful design. This could be because they were given more freedom to design the park how they wanted rather than being confined to working within a rectangular shaped space as with Central Park. Their overall vision for the park was an expression of the pastoral, aesthetic, and picturesque ideals. It was made up of three distinct regions: The Long Meadow in the north and west, the wooded Ravine in the east, and Prospect Lake in the south.
