The novel Ready Player One by Ernest Cline directly relates to the song “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” by Elvis Presley. The novel is centered around Wade Watts and his passion for playing the virtual reality video game known as the OASIS. Wade has devoted his time in this futuristic world to hunt for the Easter egg hidden within the game by the creator himself, James Halliday.
After acquiring the first of three keys, Wade stumbles upon his cyber crush, who goes by the name of Art3mis. Wade had been a raving fan of her blog for as long as he could remember, and from the moment they meet, he wanted, more than anything, to spend the rest of his life with her. During this moment, Wade says, “Spending time with her was intoxicating. We seemed to have everything in common. We shared the same interests. We were driven by the same goal. She got all of my jokes. She made me laugh. She made me think. She changed the way I saw the world. I’d never had such a powerful, immediate connection with another human being before” (Cline 174). The great impact Art3mis has on Wade’s life reveals a deeper relationship shared between the two of them. He, too, was willing to sacrifice his life and all of his dreams just to be with her. This is revealed when Wade says, “‘To hell with our competition! and the egg!’[...]’[...]I'm in love with you![...]’” (Cline 186). The unconditional love Wade has developed for Art3mis is more important to his than his own life.
