Reducing cost in the healthcare settings is a trend that hospitals will do whatever it takes to achieve (Yiu Ming & Laster, 2015). Some circumstances cannot be controlled by the hospitals or the providers. Often the operation teams will have backorders of certain products which in return means supply chain must purchase another product. Backorders take place for multiple reasons, but the result is that the vendor cannot fill the current purchase request.
