The practices that I would like to retain from doing this learning plan is to continue to incorporate the research findings during the interactions with the patients on regular basis rather than just during the admission process. I am very well able to use the new knowledge in acute care setting but also transfer those skills to outpatient settings as well. Also, I can utilize those skills in any area of nursing as it is crucial for the nurse to build a positive rapport to establish a trusting nurse-client relationship. I found communication skills to be very significant when working with mental health population because if the nurse is not communicating properly (such as word choice, tone, non-verbal gestures), there is potential that patient …show more content…
The practice that I will continue in my future nursing practice is maintaining continuing competence by being up-to-date with the current research practices. In addition, after receiving feedback from my preceptor on the use of my communication strategies I would incorporate her feedback into my future interactions with the patients. I will present myself confident and not hesitating to ask questions but rather wording them in a way which does not offend the patient. Through completing my activities I have achieved both of my sub-goals but the one activity that I have yet to complete will help me achieve my sub-goal two and enhance my future practice. All the activities help me achieve my overarching goal as I enhanced my knowledge of various communication strategies through conducting literature search and using the strategies found in my current practice to enhance therapeutic nurse-client relationship. My reflections demonstrate improvement of my professional and personal growth and also assist me with identifying patient needs better through the use of various communication strategies to provide patient-centred
