Selena Quintanilla was a Mexican-American, born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was the youngest out of the three children. She had an older brother, Abraham lll, who also goes by the name A.B. She also had an older sister named Suzette. All together their parents were Abraham and Marcela Quintanilla, Jr. For more than one hundred years, the Quintanilla family have lived and worked in Texas. Selena’s grandparents were originally from Mexico, but came to the United States. When Selena’s father was young, he had been a member of a band called, “Los Dinos.” When he got older and settled down with a family of his own, he wanted his own children to love music, too. A woman by the name of Yolanda Saldivar was a nurse down San Antonio, Texas. She admired and loved Selena. She wanted Selena to gain the success and popularity she deserved. She had called and left many messages to Abraham, Selena’s father to see if she could start up a fan club. Selena’s father didn’t call back at first, but then the Quintanilla family discussed the possibility of having a fan club being made. They all thought that it would be a good idea. They looked at it as a thank you to the fans for getting Selena this far in her life. They had hired Yolanda to manage the Selena fan club. During the first two years, Yolanda was very busy and doing very well with the business she managed. Selena would reward her for being so good to her. She had put her in charge of her new shop, Selena Etc., where clothes and jewelry were sold. The downfall was that Yolanda didn’t get along with the other employees who worked there. People had said that she was very mean towards them and that she was protective of Selena and wouldn’t let anyone talk or near her. After a while, they said that she was taking money from Selena and using it to spend stuff on herself. Since Selena like Yolanda, she didn’t let her know what people were saying about her
