Selena Quintanilla Perez was a successfully filled Mexican-American singer. She and her two siblings were the group called “Selena Y Los Dino’s”. Selena was born April 16th 1971. Sadly she was shot and killed in the back by her very close friend Yolanda Saldivar on March 31st l, 1995. Selena's music career had started a little rough when she was younger. Along with being a Mexican-American, Selena was also one of the first female Tex-Mex singers. While being a young singer the family moved on the road a lot. Selena didn't have a really normal childhood. Instead of playing outside all the time the children's play was with their instruments either in front of an audience or just practicing by themselves. The brother, A.B Quintanilla, would write most of the songs and have Selena sing them. The genre of the group was a mix of polka, country-western and traditional Mexican folk music. They had also mixed several other genres together , Colombian cumbia, pop and R&B, which had won the group United State fans and Latin Americans. Selena was the lead singer. Her brother, A.B, played bass and her sister, Suzette, played drums. Her husband, Chris Perez, had also played guitar but was the lead guitarist. In 1987 Selena had won her first award. It was the Tejano Music Award for female entertainer of the year. At just fifteen her career had skyrocketed and the group got their first record label contract, signing with Capitol Records. This got the group six victorious albums. Selena was loved by her fans and was happy for it. In 1994 Selena had won her first Grammy and the same year opened her own boutique. Selena overall was a very successful artist in the making. All the kids in the family made the group wonderful and forever will be missed.
