Act Four The Crucible CCR Responses Act Four can be reiterated very easily. The central idea of Act Four is that Act Four shows the integrity of the characters throughout the plot of Act Four. Act Four shows respectable actions performed by the characters such as John Proctor, Judge Danforth, and Reverend Hale. The author is suggesting throughout Act Four, that even through the toughest times in life your integrity will always stay with you and be a part of you, even if you might die. Act Four also shows that the characters had the integrity to rise to the occasion. When all the odds were against them, they had the integrity to stand up for themselves. The genre represented in Act Four of The Crucible is a drama play. The dialect in Act Four was mainly based around lots of tension and a very intense drama. The various spelling in Act Four was the townspeople speaking with one another, only on big, strong, faithful community knowing how to be able to speak with one another throughout Act Four. Nevertheless the author in Act Four of The Crucible used characterization, the example of characterization is when Judge Danforth characterizes Reverend Parris in Act Four when he states, “’Mr. Parris you are a brainless man!”’ (Miller The Crucible 133). Therefore this demonstrates that Parris is careless about what happens at his home. The author in Act Four used an allusion when he states, “’He freeze his soul in Massachusetts but in Barbados he just as sweet.”’ (Miller The Crucible 128). In fact the author in Act Four uses a simile when he states, “’I came into this village like a bridegroom to his beloved, bearing gifts of high religion.”’ (Miller The Crucible 138). The author supports the theme with ideas and details by making John Proctor refuse to sign the letter but when John Proctor signs the contract he rips it to shreds to prove his dignity and keep his integrity. In particular the author uses tone when Proctor is yelling at Danforth by adding exclamation points and emphasis towards the sentences throughout the discussion. Also, the author chose this method of representation because The Crucible is a drama and in a drama there is always excitement throughout a drama.
