What makes a great community leader? Every community has a great leader except one community, The African American community in the United States has been struggling in the area of leadership for many years. Some examples of good leadership programs are successful are the Jack and Jill of America program, the Young Black Leadership Alliance, the African American Leadership Program at Cardinal Stritch University, the African American Leadership Institute, and the Boys and Girls Club of America. In some areas it is tough for the kids to fit in the world. First it depends on their living conditions and growing up. Issues in their lives like being arrested or lack of education. “The neighborhood in which you grow up is a major determinant of your economic success as an adult.” The African American community lacks on basic needs like proper education and a safe environment for learning. Many schools in Black neighborhoods aren’t not too good. Lack quality schools. “The new insight is that much of our best evidence about the effects of growing up in a bad neighborhood comes from examining children whose parents work particularly hard to protect them from the dangers around them.” This mean that the parents are trying their hardest to protect them, but it never works in the big city.
