Gender inequality is a real world problem happening on a global scale. The treatment of women around the world really varies by country but in many cases, women are viewed as submissive to men. I think a lot of this can originate from the fact many countries are patriarchal in nature meaning they are male dominated. Gender inequality can take place in the workplace and the government. Moreover, women in some countries are even subjected to abuse and discrimination by the ones they know most. Regardless of you are in the world, gender inequality is taking place, and something needs to be done to stop this terrible treatment. In the film Saving Face, we are introduced to two Pakistani women who have been abused by their husbands. …show more content…
Even the text still notes that throughout the world, women continue to be victims of violence and discrimination. All of this is at the cost of the women's well-being and their countries economy. As the text presents, one in three women will experience violence during their lifetime, and most often it is by the hands of someone she knows. Besides being victims, women also experience inequality in the workplace. There is still a considerable wage gap experienced between men and women. Women have gradually moved into more prominent positions in governments around the world. However, many heads of state, judges, and legislators are still men.
Movies like Saving Face and these stunning statistics found in the text offer a greater insight on how women around the world are really treated. From my perspective, I think many people are really unaware of what terrible things are going on to women in countries like Pakistan. Regardless of where we live or who we are the fact remains the same. Gender inequality is happening on a global scale.
