The film I have chosen to analyze it titled “Saving Private Ryan”. This film was ……. My opinion of this film is that it was a complete masterpiece, and one of the most outstanding war movies I have ever seen.
The story line of this movie is about a captain, who is played by Tom Hanks and his team of soldiers who set out a mission to retrieve one out of four brothers who was killed in action. The effects of the opening scene of this movie were in my opinion wonderful. For my selected movie “American Sniper” I think was comprised mainly with low key lighting. Low key lighting was implemented to unnerve the viewer, yet keep them optimistic. The opening scene contains a lot of death, but the low key lighting used added that much of a dark and dramatizing reaction which gave the movie a realistic depiction. Throughout the movie, there were many scenes which were portrayed in black and white, and sepia. This technique contributed to the theme because not only were there dark shadows present, but there was lighting only in specific areas for enhancement and highlights of a specific scene or object. Low key lighting suited the genre of the film because this movie was all about mystery, drama, and tension which flattered and complemented the genre of this movie. Although there was a lot of action present in this film, the low key lighting used added that much of a dark and dramatizing reaction which gave the movie a realistic depiction. Color served as a major aspect in this film. Colors have an impact on how people feel. Dark colors were mostly used in this specific clip to express to the viewer the sadness of how some of the soldiers felt. In this film, color was very symbolic. Example of shots displayed in this film were extreme long shot-taken from a faraway distance, full shot- shows the entire body of the character, and medium shot-only shows the character from the waist
