In the story The Scarlet Ibis there is one main theme throughout the entire story. That theme is that you sometimes hurt the ones you love the most. This is mainly shown between the relationship between Brother and Doodle. In their relationship Brother hurts Doodle very badly even though he loves him. One example of this is on page 448 where brother says “Do you want to be different from everybody else when you start school?" This shows how Brother cares for Doodle by wanting to make him better, but in the end hurts Doodle. Doodle ends up getting a fever which can be implied came from whatever Brother did with Doodle.
