Art is a tool for every person on earth to convey what they have in their minds for someone else. Over the course of time, art has been developed from wall scribbles by the early humans to paintings on canvases for others to look at and perceive what they think about it. Art is the most efficient way to convey feelings or emotions for someone.

Although, she does look she comes from a prosperous family as the pearl necklace indicates. Her luggage also indicates she has been waiting for a long time and has almost given up hope that her loved ones will ever show up to bring her back. The painting is a live portrait made by looking at the subject and capturing real emotions to create a depth in the painting. The
Patel 1 negative space around her is filled with sadness as the dark color captures it quite well. The sadness along with the negative space around the subject creates a sorrowful environment. The painting also has a radial balance to it coming out from the old woman and surrounding her. The emphasis is all on the woman making her a focal point.
The use of heavy and dark colors throughout the composition generates a feeling of sadness and melancholy for the woman. The availability of the heavy colors and less use of different textures gives the work a deep sense of wisdom emitting from her since she has seen it all and just feel affection for her and comfort her. But, every one of us forget that they need them to support them and gives them guidance through thick and thin to help prosper towards their goal, love them and care for them, as they are their backbones. The old seated woman has been through ups and downs with her family and when she was not needed, she was discarded and left on her own to survive. She is portrayed sad because of the injustice happened to her and the artist captures it extraordinarily, down to the point that her micro-expressions can be seen on her face. The art is just as whole, is illustrated as melancholy and sorrowful, which is the theme for the art.
After contemplating the art, my first reaction to it was somber and it has stayed throughout. This art work implements some change in my life. It allowed me to perceive my elders into a totally new light and making me feel rewarded for having them in my life and guiding me throughout my life with every obstacle I faced. Eventually, when I grow up, I intend to achieve the same goals they set for me and my life.
