SeaWorld is an example of a zoo that has been changing in recent years, the main reason why they are changing to education rather than entertainment is the deaths of a few of its trainers. In March 15, 1959 SeaWorld was the first ever aquarium based zoo to ever open up. At first SeaWorld only had sealions and smaller aquatic creatures, but in 1965 they captured and trained the first orca ever. People were amazed that they captured such a creature and soon they started a breeding program for the orca whales so they do not have to capture anymore. Recently SeaWorld has been getting bad public attention from the orca attraction due to the death of a couple trainers and the movie Blackfish. The public influence has been changing for the worse ever since one of the more recent deaths in 2010. Although SeaWorld is getting rid of the shows, they are still going to keep the orca exhibit for education purposes, not just for entertainment. They are replacing the shows for something more natural, the new program will focus on orca enrichment, exercise, and overall health. This act was put in place to ensure that animals in zoos are provided with a natural environment, these zoos were searched by a process of inspection and licensing of all zoos in the United Kingdom. The Act has been updated several times through its lifespan, but the main laws have not changed. Under the Zoo Licensing Act, a zoo is defined as a place where wild animals are kept for exhibition to which members of the public have access to.
