We wanted the overall message of our Body Biography to be Simon’s good nature and spirituality. We used mostly colored pencils because they have a softer, more realistic look to represent Simon’s connection to nature. We wrote our quotes in marker, so they would stand out. We associate very basic natural colors with the good aspects of Simon. His beliefs, morals, and admirable qualities are all contained colors like green and brown showing his connection to the earth. They are also more natural and pleasing images. The colors that surround Simon’s doubts and insecurities are harsher darker colors with more gruesome images.
Simon’s heart is not an anatomical heart, but a cartoon heart to show that he loves and truly cares for people. It is on his sleeve to show he does not mind being truly kind to people on this island of savagery. It bears the quote by the Lord of the Files, “You like Ralph don’t you? And Piggy, and Jack?”. This quote shows that even as the tribe splits and lines are drawn Simon still cares about everyone and even though he is on Ralph’s side, he still cares about Jack. The Lord of the Flies represents how Simon carries the message the pig brings him. It bears the quote, “"You knew, didn't you? I'm part of you? Close, close, close! I'm the reason why it's no go? Why things are what they are?". It represents Simon’s knowledge that the beast is only the dark side of human nature. We drew the pig up next to Simon’s head to show the Lord of the Files whispering his dark truth into Simon’s ear. The kettlebell represents his insecurity to speak to the group and his differences. It also shows how these challenges are weighing him down from participating in everyday life on the island. This is best expressed in the quote on the weight, “Other people could stand up and speak to an assembly, apparently, without that dreadful feeling of the pressure of
