How would you like to be starved, beaten, whipped, worked till you drop? Slaves in the 1800’s were faced with all of those challenges in their everyday lives. People are either for or against slavery. Some people suggest that slavery in a benefit to our country; however, they fail to recognize the value of human life outweighs the benefit. Therefore, slavery is wrong and should never happen to anyone.

Admittedly, some people think that slaves are better off than northern laborers.”A free laborer must work or starve...He works longer and harder for less allowance than a slave has..”(Slavery Defended) They also think slaves are treated and cared for by their masters.”They enjoy liberty, because they are oppressed neither by care or labor.”(Slavery …show more content…
To begin, slaves can take care of themselves. African Americans are capable of getting jobs, making money, learning, and everything else. Also, Slaves should have a choice to move up in social class. Even northern laborers if they work hard enough can move up, but a slave will always be a slave. Just as important, African Americans should not be beat if they don't work. They are not animals, northern laborers are not beat if they slow down, slaves should be benefited for good work; not beaten. Being a slave meant you were the lowest of the low.

Last but not least, slaves felt like they were unwanted and dumb. First of all, slaves were worked till death. They worked from 6 till they dropped. In addition, slaves got very few holidays off. They got 1 or 2 holidays and a few days of christmas throughout the whole year. Equally as important, they were always hungry. There monthly pay consisted of barley no food at all. “ … boiled corn and water only rarely a sufficient quantity of this substance…”(slavery described)A slave was barely alive and felt unwanted thier entire life.

In conclusion slavery should never happen to any person and should abolished. Slaves had to face the horrors of slavery everyday. Slaves were starved and beaten as the owner pleases. All the wrong, and its for a platation owner to make
