In the novel Speak the main character,Melinda, is represented by a tree.This is because as the novel goes on the more development and growth as a character is shown.. Page after page the more we learn about her, how she feels and what truly happened the night of the party. Towards the end of the novel the tree symbolizes that what once was damaged and broken can flourish once again. By the end of the novel all loose strings are tied up and Melinda finally has the enormous weight lifted of her shoulders.
