For 16 years of my life, I was an unconfident and shy kid. I would spend my recess time alone, talking to myself, not playing with the other kids. I would have panic attacks almost daily, and they would happen so abruptly. But, I am not the only person that suffers from a mental illness. It has been said that only 1 out of 5 teenagers who need mental health services will actually receive them. This is due to the strong stigma towards them. The stigma towards mental disorders has existed for decades. Although it is not as strong as it used to be, it is still present in our lives. But, there have originazations created to stop the stigma. Resources for mental health have gotten more accessible. CAMH, CMHA, CAMIMH AND Bell Let's Talk raise money for mental health programs to be more accessible. In January, Bell Let's Talk has a day devoted to raising money and awareness to mental health. This year, they raised around 6 million dollars and have raised over 10 million in 5 years. The united nations has also tried to eliminate the stigma against mental health. Last October, they made mental health a policy priotrity and declared that "all persons with mental illnesses should be treated with respect and humanity". Celebrities have also raised awareness of mental illnesses. Stars like Elton John, Oprah, Carrie Fisher and Adele have all combated a type of mental illness sometime in their lives, and have openly spoken about it. People want an inspirational figure in their battle against mental disorders, and they often find it in celebrities. With organizations spreading awareness, celebrities opening up about their mental health and the growing amount resources for mental illness, its clear that we are going in the right
