. In the beginning of chapter 7 on pg. 57 Scout said “Jem stayed moody and silent for a week. As Atticus had advised me to do, I tried to climb into Jem’s skin and walk around in it.” Scout takes Atticus’ advice to get in Jem’s point of view and understand what she has gone through. She later concludes that she herself would also be very grumpy if she had go to the Radley’s house alone. On the way home on day Jem confesses to scout about what happened that night at the Radley’s house. On pg.58 Jem said ”When I went back they were folded across the fence…. like they were expecting’ me. It’s almost like somebody knew I was comin’ back for ‘em.”

Calpurnia plays one role in the Finch house and a different role outside the house. In the Finch house she is a housekeeper that acts as a mother figure. She cooks, cleans, raise the kids, teaches them many things, and also disciplines them. She is a big role model and a very positive influence in Jem and Scout’s lives. Calpurnia emphasises that everyone should be treated with respect. One day when Scout brings home her friend Walter, she makes fun of the way he pours syrup all over his food. Calpurnia is very mad and disappointed because she said that everyone needs to be shown respect. The kids get a whole new look at Calpurnia’s other life when they visit her church. Since Calpurnia is African-American she faces discrimination and rejection. Calpurnia is very essential to these kids lives and their experiences with Calpurnia shape their ideas of race and equality.

In Maycomb, AL. in the 1930’s, the center of the universe of obligation are the Ewells because they are allowed to not attend school, they are permitted to hunt and trap out of season, and are allowed to do whatever they desire. On pg. 30-31 Atticus states everything they are allowed to do. The common folk are also included in the circle because they are allowed certain privileges and have many rights. On the other hand the Negroes are not included because they have no rights and they are not treated equal like everyone

Atticus refers to “Maycomb’s usual disease” which means racism. He is worried about Jem and Scout and how this is gonna affect them in a negative way. He doesn't want them to be angry or resentful because of this bad experience. Atticus doesn’t suffer from it because he knows he is doing the right thing by helping the Negroes out.

12. The Finch name has a long legacy of respect behind them. A Maycomb Finch symbolizes a peaceful person and strong in one’s defense. According to Alexandra the importance of a Finch is vital to the country. Also, a Finch woman should hold her family’s reputation high by wearing a dress, speaking properly, and acting girly. She doesn't want the name to be lost or forgotten. Everyone in Maycomb respects Atticus Finch and his name and reputation means a lot to him. He is known for fighting for what he wants and carries the name with pride.

13. When Uncle Jack talks to Atticus, Atticus states that the trial is going to get really bad and the case is based on one’s word against the other. He is expecting he is going to loose the trial since the jury is mainly white but he hopes that on the appeal he will have better
