College football players should get paid, because “they put their body’s, and future on the line every single game and practice”(“College Football Players”). Not only that but they spend lots of extra time after school doing tutoring sessions, doing labs, and staying for football practice. “Players spend about 43.3 hours a week dedicated to football”(“College Football Players”), and that’s not including school, and tutoring sessions and stuff like that. A full-time job is classified as 40 hours a week, so therefore they should get paid for playing, because they spend more time dedicated to football than they would have to if they had a full-time job. Also because they spend so long on campus going to school and practices and stuff, they do not have enough time to go find a job and work somewhere. Thus, paying the players will help them pay for their books and everything else they will need for college. “It will also teach financial responsibility to the players. If players get suspended now, they are not really losing anything, they just get a couple days out of practice, but if they were paid then they would be losing money. “It will also show players that bad behavior in the future, will affect their income”(“College Football Players”). If they do make the pro’s and mess up they will have to witness the suspension, and fee, and loss in income the hard way, that is why they should be paid in college so they can learn the consequences early. In conclusion, yes college football players should get paid, because they spend lots of hours dedicated to the sport, it teaches financial responsibility, and it shows them if they get suspended in the NFL how the consequences will affect you.
