The conflict between white American business men and Hawaiians for control over the government of Hawaii was put to an end when it was annexed by the United States. Conspirators reported the overthrow of the monarchy on January 17, 1893. Queen Liliuokalani asked the U.S. government for help, but the government decided not to help her take back her throne. After bloodshed was avoided thanks to Queen Liliuokalani, in the 1893 revolution, these American businessmen were able to influence Congress and President Harrison to annex Hawaii. During his last month as President, Harrison issued an agreement regarding annexation to the Senate for approval, however the new president, Grover Cleveland, removed the treaty from the Senate for it to be examined
