Day 4
Outcome 1: Children will be able to determine the differences and similarities between cooked and uncooked rice and use language to describe their understanding.
Outcome 2: Children will be able to identify own likes and dislikes, communicate their thoughts and feelings with their peers using words.
Outcome 3: Children will be able to identify the quantity of things using measuring cups and able to compare quantities of two sets of things using “more”, “less” and “same as” appropriately.
Large Group (45 mins)
1. Introduce the children to the concept of cooked and uncooked rice. Bring some samples of the cooked rice as shown in figure 14 in the Appendix. Observation of the children should focus on the language they use e.g. words to describe their likes

Discuss on the different methods of cooking rice and select one method for the children to cook rice
3. Make simple recordings of the children discussion on the steps to cook rice.
Small Group (45 mins)
Get the children to work in groups of four to scoop the rice and pour them into different sizes of containers as shown in figure 13 in the Appendix. Record the number of scoops to fill up each container on a given worksheet. State which container has the largest and the least capacity.
Environment - indoor location is more appropriate with some tables and chairs.
Activities – must be defined in the planning so that the children are able to see the purpose of working together and to learn in a specific social context.
Materials - must be sufficient for the children to use to encourage collaboration and cooperation. It should all be labelled clearly.
Instructional Practices – educator is able to document the children’s observation and reflect on their preparation, teaching skills and planning. Notes can be made to adjust or refine future planning.
Physical Assistance/guidance – educator is able to demonstrate, explain and challenge in ways that support the achievement of the intended learning.
