During the 17 and 1800’s, ships were people’s means of transportation. The oceans would be filled with ships that would travel long distances and in very severe weather conditions for trade. Imagine yourself out on sea on a ship….how much trouble can there be….not until Barbary pirates would appear….they would try to capture your ship, steal your cargo, and hold your ship for ransom, not until the United States created and would send out the U.S.S. Constitution out to sea, would it all change.

The U.S.S. Constitution is a wooden boat of the United States navy, named by George Washington, our 1st president of the United States. The U.S.S. Constitution is still the oldest naval boat still afloat and the third vessel assembled out of 6 ships that would be given approval for construction by the Naval Act of 1794. The U.S.S. in the constitution stands for the United States Ship. The U.S.S. Constitution is still part of the U.S. Navy when the constitution was last launched on October 21, 1797.

On June 1794, he was assigned to Naval Constructor and began working on a number of ships which ended up becoming the beginning of the U.S. Navy. The ships that Humphrey would create where larger than most ships of their class and formed the core of the Navy during the War of 1812. These ships caused several victories against the British ships. The names of the 6 ships that were created by Humphrey were the Constitution, the President, the United States, the Chesapeake, the Constellation, and the
