The ban on “The Bluest Eye” in middle schools could be a beneficial thing to do. As a result of the book containing sexual scenes such as “Rape” and “Sex,” middle schooler’s minds aren’t fully developed enough to be able to go through a book like that. Knowing people in middle school books about sexuality can make kids curious about, what would the scene look like? Were they having fun with it? Can lead kids to be puzzled, which will make them go into pornography. Seeking out websites such as “porn” can impact their understanding of consent, relationships, and body image. Body image is something people worry about these days, people tend to start questioning if their bodies aren’t as good as other people’s. As in middle school, students go through their complications but as the book mentions, despite parts such as rape and getting pregnant by her father can impact a trigger into the minds that are still developing. …show more content…
The Bluest Eye includes lots of racism, such as skin color. Being able to read about racism, something you never had to worry about, extends your mind to think about how other people go through this daily corporate cycle. Being able to understand the harassment people have to go through day to day. Having an understanding of racism can help you gain empathy and a deeper understanding of the systemic issues that continue to affect society. Scientifically proven, it shows how it increases empathy and understanding and helps develop critical thinking skills.
