The Boston Tea Party ultimately led to the American Revolution. What occurred in the Boston Tea Party was a result of “taxation without representation.” Prior to the Boston Tea Party, the British and Americans had tension, building further more as disagreements emerged. Since the beginning of the 18th century, American colonies imported their tea. The British realized that a great amount of business was being made, they tried to make more money off of the tea trade by dramatically increasing the taxation on tea. Three major acts involved, angered the Colonists. The first act closed the boston harbor to encourage the people of boston to pay for the tea that had been thrown in the water. This act was called the Boston Port Act, which became effective on June 1, 1774. On May 20th, the Administration of Justice Act passed, as well as the Massachusetts Government Act. Under the Administration of Justice Act, it prevented British soldiers from being held accountable for any crimes they might commit, allowing them to do anything they desired because there was a possibility for them to not be punished for any crimes. This act was supported by the Impartial Administration of Justice act, which was established later on and gave british troops freedom in the Massachusetts law. The Massachusetts Government Act, town meetings were restricted to once a year, only if the governor approved more. All officials, juries and sheriffs would be appointed by the convenor and the assembly could not meet. For Canada, the Quebec Act established that Canadian Borders separate Massachusetts, Connecticut and Virginia to improve British Governance for their new territory in Quebec. Colonist demanded change and worked around and against the different acts that were passed that took away from their rights as citizens.
