In the book “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” a man named William Kamkwamba tells his story of him building a windmill when he was younger. There are struggles he has to go through. William also has positive things happen to him. Throughout the whole story William is intelligent, forbearing, and inventive. William teaches us in the book to never give up and that good things come from bad things. He also teaches us how we can make good of things that are bad. William is a very intelligent kid. He finished primary school and was ready to go secondary school. When he was in his first term at secondary school a famine happened. Crops couldn't grow because they had drowned in the rain. Then they couldn’t grow because it was to hot. Since there was no crop, nothing could be sold, nothing could be sold, so there was no money. When the payments came due at his school, William was no longer able to attend because his family had no money. Everyday William watched as his friends went to school. Many things happened to William. The famine happened, he wasn’t able to go to school, his mom got sick, his family didn’t have money. People even started calling William the Madman for building the windmill. Even with all of these things happening William pushed through and followed his dreams. People didn’t believe in him. “At first I’d tried to explain the windmill, but they just laughed and said “Iwe, you’re wasting your time. This junk is good for nothing.” Even days when I tried sneaking past, someone would spot me through the open window and yell “There goes the madman off to his chamba!” (Kamkwamba, 188).
