Metal detectors, checkpoints, security cameras, and armed guards. These are currently "standard" in most public schools. To make matters worse, everyone who watches the news knows why these precautions are necessary. With the number of shootings increasing by the day, the school board would have to be as insane as the shooters to not require better security. What you all these shooters have in common? Forewarning of a possible mental or emotional disorder. Some meeting at the warning with enough but very few people actually take the "professionals" seriously enough to seek help before it's too late. I believe that our world is too fragile not to treat mental illness as serious as a physical ailment.

Most of the shooters and murderers involved in these school massacres are teenage males. Kip kinkle and Sam Manzie are both prime examples of this. Anna Quindlen, author of " The C Word in the Hallways", wrote " it's true that both the Kinkle and Manzie boys had already been introduced to the mental health system before their crimes." later on in her essay, she states that " Kip Kinkle's father made no secret of his disapproval of therapy. During its course he bought his son the Glock that Kip would later use on his killing spree." Mr. Kinkle's ignorance and blatant disrespect for a professional opinion shows that society as a whole doesn't treat

The world is so obsessed with curing cancer that they turn a blind eye towards ailments of the mind. We live in a place where help is available to those who need it yet " the most optimistic estimate is that two thirds of these emotionally disturbed children aren't getting any treatment." Quindlen also states "Imagine how we would respond if two-thirds of America's babies were not getting immunized." if until health is so important, why isn't it in our healthcare
