Sofia - “Men do not have any say in what women can or can’t do. If any of them, even my husband Harpo, tries to make me do something I don’t want, I will always try to fight back. Us gals should stick up against the tyranny of men!”
In one of Celie’s early letters, she describes the an interaction with Sofia and Harpo. They are married, and at the time, the husbands were in charge of everything and the wives had no say. However, Sofia was different. If Harpo tried to command her, she fought back. In this specific scenario, “they fought like two men”, and the violence that ensued
