As the film industry came to prominence throughout the early 1900s, competition led the various studios to seek out ways in which they could capitalize on their initial successes. With experience, studio heads came to find that audiences could be drawn into theaters and exhibitors would be enticed to purchase movies if that film featured well known and well liked stars, especially with the popularity of many female actresses during that era among those that attended movies.
