'The Future Of Society In Ayn Rand's Anthem'

Anthem portrays the future of the society after a war. In the society technology is not developed and is frowned upon. This implies that technology is bad and causes trouble because of the the unmentionable times, how the society is run, and how people react to it. In the novell Equality 7-2521 is the main character and the society is showed in his view.
Equality says “we must never speak of the unmentionable times before the great rebirth, else we are sentenced to three years in the palace of corrective detention”(Pg.19). After this statement he says the elders whisper to each other about towers that rose to the sky and wagons that moved without horses, which shows that the technology in those times have led to what the society is now. Equality says “all the great modern inventions come from the home of the scholars, such as the newest one,of how to make candles from wax and string”(Pg.23). This shows that people in the society are not allowed to invent things and is controlled only by the scholars which means they regulate what is made next. When Equality gets his job he says “we would accept our life mandate, and would work for our brothers, gladly and willingly”(Pg.26). Since his job is picked for him it means he can't follow his dreams and create things that he wants because it would be dangerous for the council. Something else he states is “we must never speak of the unmentionable times before the great rebirth, else we are sentenced to three years in the palace of corrective detention”(Pg.19). This shows that the council doesn't want the unmentionable times brought up because it might make people want to progress in technology and the society will be corrupt. In order for problems to not show up the council wants to hide the technology because it causes trouble and could lead to another
