In the novel The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the narrator, Nick Carraway, befriends a man who goes by the name of Jay Gatsby. Gatsby reveals himself as a wealthy man whose only desire is to finally be reunited with his lover from many years ago, Daisy Buchanan. However, a chaotic event happens in the process that causes Daisy to think differently of Gatsby, thus losing her feelings for him. In addition to that, Daisy’s husband, Tom Buchanan, is the main reason that led Daisy to think differently of him. This turns Gatsby into a hopeless man; there are no other options or solutions to win Daisy’s affections. Even though George Wilson was the one who shot and killed Gatsby, he in no way responsible for the chain of events that led up to the shooting. The person who is responsible for Jay Gatsby’s death is Tom Buchanan. The event that happened that led to Gatsby’s death was very convoluted. There were already a few factors that made the group exasperated, but mainly Tom’s actions contributed to the situation. It all started when Daisy suggested that they should head out to town on the hottest day of the year. While Gatsby and Nick were in the room with Daisy, Tom, and Jordan Baker, Daisy’s friend, something happened between Daisy and Gatsby that Tom immediately caught onto. “Their eyes met, and they stared at each other, alone in space.
